New Delhi:

The man, identified as Shakti Bhargava, was later held by security personnel present during the presser. Bhargava is said to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur and is a doctor by profession. Bhargav, clad in a pink shirt and dark trousers, threw the shoe at Rao the moment he started defending the saffron party's move to field Malegaon blast accused Pragya Singh Thakur as its candidate from Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal.
Reacting to the incident, the BJP put the blame on the Congress party and said that they attack was carried out on the instructions of the Grand Old Party. The Congress, however, rebutted the allegations saying that people of the country are angy due to the misrule of the BJP and the attacker could be one of the vicitms of the saffron party's "anti-people" policies.
