Union minister and senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi has come up with yet another statement that could provide fresh fodder to the opposition.

During her speech in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur on Sunday, Gandhi suggested that the villages be classified into different categories based on the votes received by the party from them and accordingly provide them with the development works.

Elaborating on her suggestion, she said that villages which cast 80 per cent votes for the BJP will come under category 'A' and will receive the maximum development works, those who cast 60 per cent votes will be under category 'B'. Villages which cast less than 50 per cent votes will come under 'C' category and those who cast below 30 percent votes in BJP's favour will be category 'D'.

She said that the BJP has also implemented the same categorisation of villages at Pilibhit, from where her son Varun Gandhi is the party candidate.

Last week, addressing a rally in Sultanpur, from where she is contesting the Lok Sabha elections, Maneka Gandhi had told Muslims to vote for her or face the risk of not receiving her help after she is re-elected as minister. She was served a show-cause notice by the District Magistrate of the constituency.

"I am winning. I am winning because of the help and love of the people," Gandhi said at the meeting in the constituency earlier held by her son Varun Gandhi.

"But if my victory is without the Muslims, I will not feel very good," she said, adding she will be left with a bitter feeling.

"If Muslims come for some work after this, I will think why bother, what difference will it make."

Suggesting that it was matter of give and take, she added, "We are not Mahatma Gandhi's children to keep giving without getting anything in return."
