Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to former terrorist-turned-soldier Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani, who was killed during a gunfight with terrorists in south Kashmir’s Shopian in November 2018, and all other soldiers, and said vowed to eliminate terrorism from Kashmir Valley. While interacting with students in Srinagar, Modi said: "I pay my tribute to martyr Nazir Ahmad Wani and all other brave soldiers who sacrificed themselves to protect the nation and maintain peace. Nazir Ahmad Wani was awarded Ashok Chakra. Youth like him show the youth of J&K and the entire country to live for the nation... All terrorists would be given a befitting reply. We will make sure to finish the terrorism in the Valley. I promise that Atal Bihari Vajpayee's dream would be fulfilled.

Highlights of PM Modi's interaction with students in Srinagar:

# "I salute Jawans like Nazir Wani who martyred himself for the country. I congratulate people of the Valley for being part of the panchayat elections. Despite the threats, you came to polling booths and voted is an inspiration. All the projects inaugurated today will help people of the Valley. Congratulations to everyone in the Valley. We have changed the policy of governments where we are starting development projects from states. We are launching many things which generally would be inaugurated or foundation stone would be put from Delhi but we are doing it from different states, like today we are here in Srinagar."

# "New innovations and technology has made a huge jump in the last few decades. I am talking to you from Srinagar and students are listening across the country. Aadhaar is a digital revolution. Students are learning through apps. There could be a time when these tuition centres are no more and students learn on these apps. The digital world has become a part of our body. We are reaching to the poor through long distance education and digital technology can help us a lot.

# "If we decide as a country that we have to get rid of poverty, we can. It’s not impossible to tackle poverty. India is becoming one of the best economies in the world. We are number one in the rating of changing the status of the poor. I requested people about Swacch Bharat and people responded with so much energy. Rural sanitation was 38 per and now its 98 percent and it’s not the government but the people of this country. We decided to open bank accounts for people in the country. And now most of the people in the country have bank accounts. We decided to provide electricity for everyone, and today J&K is possible.

# "Tourism starts with being proud of your own culture. Rs 27 billion we have got from tourists. Cleanliness and attitude of people will be the main factor for tourism. Uber is a big example, and I am sure if people work on such initiatives it would work so good."

# "It’s true farmers in Gujarat face a lot of problems. Earlier funds, it was not reaching the people it was meant for. I just requested people to leave subsidy, so many people left gas subsidy. If we become honest, then people would give taxes. India is going to be Rs 5 trillion economy. And I am sure it will happen soon. Farmers in the next 10 years will have Rs 7.5 lakh crore.

# "The youngsters I got to talk to today makes me extremely happy. Despite the cold and low-temperature people have come here to meet me."

Modi laid foundation stones of various development work in Srinagar region worth Rs 7,000 crore. He also inaugurated a rural Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in Bandipore. This will enhance employment opportunities for the Kashmiri youths, he said.

The prime minister also inaugurated multipurpose indoor sports facility at Sephora, Ganderbal, among other projects. Earlier in the day, Modi interacted with students from different states of the country.
