After leading the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to a massive victory in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met his mother Heeraben Modi and sought her blessings. Heeraben lives with Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi in 'Vrindavan Bungalows' in Raysan village near Gandhinagar. Modi spent about 20 minutes with his mother, touching her feet and seeking blessings. The prime minister is scheduled to stay at the Raj Bhavan for the night.

"PM Shri Narendra Modi takes blessings of his mother after becoming Prime Minister for the second consecutive term," the BJP wrote on its official twitter handle while posting a series of photographs of Modi with his mother Heeraben Modi at her Gandhinagar residence.

Modi was in the town to attend a felicitation event at the BJP office in Khanpur area, followed by his spectacular win in this Lok Sabha polls. BJP president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani were also present at the programme.

Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, arranged by the Gujarat unit of the BJP, Modi said the next five years will be the time to regain the rightful position of India in the world order. "Next five years will be very important in the history of the country, as was the period between 1942 to 1947," Modi said addressing a huge gathering.

"Next five years will be the time to regain the rightful position of India in the world order. In the past our country had that place. I am sure India will regain its importance in the world order," he added.

Expressing grief over the death of 22 students in Surat building fire tragedy, Modi said, "Till yesterday, I was in two minds whether to go for this felicitation function or not as on one hand, there was duty and on the other hand, there was compassion for those who died in Surat. No amount of words can reduce the grief of the families who have lost their children in that tragedy".

"On the other hand, I had to thank the people of the state and also take blessings of my mother as my duty," Modi asserted. The event was kept simple and shorn of pomp, keeping in mind the Surat fire tragedy.

Modi, who arrived at his home turf around 5 pm this afternoon, also held a roadshow before reaching the party office and thanked people for showing faith in him. On Monday, will leave for his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, which he grabbed for the consecutive time with a margin of 4.79 lakh votes.
