New Update
The Congress party has fielded its sitting MLA CJ Chavda against BJP president Amit Shah from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat. After the Congress party's announcement, Chavda, a two-time MLA from Gandhinagar-North Assembly seat, said that he will give a tough fight to Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha elections.
The announcement of Chavda's name was made on Tuesday night. Besides Chavda, the Congress party also announced three more names of its Lok Sabha candidates in Gujarat.
Gandhinagar has been a bastion of BJP veteran LK Advani, who has been representing the constituency since 1999. However, the saffron party this time denied ticket to sitting MP Advani and replaced him with its chief Amit Shah.
On March 30, the BJP president filed his nomination from the constituency with much fanfare. Shah held a mega road show along with Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and top leaders of NDA allies such as Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, SAD supremo Prakash Singh Badal and LJP's Ram Vilas Paswan.
In 2014, the BJP had won all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat. Speaking to News Nation, Amit Shah had claimed that the BJP will not just repeat its 2014 performance but will also garner more vote share in the state and country. Polling in all 26 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held in a single phase on April 23 and the results will be declared on May 23.
