In a sensational claim, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of having a secret understanding with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan after the latter endorsed a second term for his party BJP and asked whether the Pulwama attack was carried out to help Modi win the elections.
"Pakistan and Imran Khan are openly supporting Modi ji. It is clear now that Modi ji has some secret pact wid them. Everyone is asking - did Pakistan kill 40 of our brave soldiers in Pulwama on 14 Feb just before elections to help Modi ji?" the Delhi CM said.
The remarks of the Aam Aadmi Party chief against PM Modi came after Pakistani prime minister said that he wanted the BJP – a right-wing party – to win the elections as there would be better chances to resolve the Kashmir issue under the saffron party’s rule.
In his election rallies, Modi has been accusing the Opposition parties of being a sympathizer of Pakistan. However, after Pakistani premier’s open support for the BJP, his nationalism pitch has backfired with Opposition parties questioning his “love” for Imran Khan.
Referring to the Pakistani prime minister’s endorsement for his second term, the main Opposition Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala remarked: “Pakistan has officially allied with Modi! ‘A vote for Modi is a vote for Pakistan’, says Pak PM Imran Khan. Modiji, first affection with Nawaz Sharif and now Imran Khan has become your loving friend. He has called your bluff.”
Another Opposition leader and Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy also targeted the incumbent prime minister and said that the truth was out now. "We lost 40 Jawans under @Narendramodi's watch but when the Opposition objected to politicising the army, he accused us of having supporters in Pak. But the truth is out now. @ImranKhanPTI supports Modi & says Pak prefers Modi as the Indian PM. So, who has the support of our enemies?” Kumaraswamy said.
