All eyes will be on Gujarat - Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state - when the results of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections will be announced on Thursday, May 23. The counting of votes polled in 26 parliamentary seats in Gujarat is underway amid tight security. Although Gujarat is considered the citadel of the BJP, the Congress had put up a good fight in the recently held Assembly elections in the state. In 2014, the BJP had bagged all the 26 seats and it would be interesting to see if the saffron party can repeat the performance.

News Nation exit poll for Gujarat had predicted that BJP may get 22-24 of the total seats. The Congress can also open its accoutn and predicted to win 2-4 seats in Modi's home state.

Election Commission officials have said this exercise of matching EVM vote counts with VVPAT slips will take an additional four to five hours.
