Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has named Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal as its Lok Sabha election candidates from Bathinda and Ferozepur seats, respectively. The candidature of the Union minister and former Punjab deputy chief minister were announced by SAD patron and former Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal on Tuesday.
After the announcement, the former Punjab chief minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the experience to run the administration, whereas, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi still lacked the skill.
"Rahul has no administrative experience, never served as a minister or CM. Even for getting a driving licence you should know how to drive; so if one has to become PM one needs experience," Badal said.
Attacking the Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in Punjab, the SAD chief accused the ruling state government of fooling the people with several promises.
"Capt Amarinder Singh promised several things--debt waiver and wiping out drugs—and fooled people before forming the government. The Congress attacked the Akal Takht and snatched our river waters, whereas Modi took the decision to open the Kartarpur Sahib corridor besides taking other landmark decisions," he said.
The SAD is the major alliance partner of the BJP in Punjab. The two parties are contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the state together. Elections on the 13 parliamentary seats in Punjab will be held in the last phase on May 19.
