Hope Gambhir meets people on dusty roads, not cheat them by using duplicate: AAP

Gautam Gambhir has won the East Delhi parliamentary seat

A day after newly elected BJP MP Gautam Gambhir took a swipe at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over a ‘dirty pamphlet’ against the Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took a dig at the cricketer-turned-politician saying he should meet the people on the dusty roads and not "cheat them" by sending his duplicate as he did during the campaigning period.

"We offer our best wishes to all seven BJP MPs and expect them to work on Delhi Police, DDA (Delhi Development Authority) and MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi). All of these departments are directly under their central government and lot needs to be done in them,” Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a statement.

"Gambhir was cheating (the) public (by) using his duplicate to campaign in (the) hot afternoon while he was sitting in air-conditioned car. Public will forgive him if he himself meets people on dusty and sunny roads of Delhi," the statement reads.

During campaigning for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, AAP leader and Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had alleged Gambhir was using a ‘duplicate’ to campaign for him in order to avoid the heat.

He even shared pictures of the alleged impersonator on microblogging site claiming that the man was actually a Congress leader.

Gambhir won the East Delhi parliamentary seat by defeated Arvinder Singh Lovely from the Congress by a margin of over 3.91 lakh votes. AAP's candidate Atishi stood at distant third.

Earlier, Gambhir took a swipe at Kejriwal saying elections come and go but one cannot afford to lose one's conscience.

"I do not have any words for him if he can level such allegation just to win a seat. You can lose an election and move ahead but how can one face himself after losing his conscience," he said.

Elections will come and go, the day "you lose your conscience you lose everything", he added.
