More than two months after high-pitched campaigning and seven phases of hectic voting schedule, News Nation has predicted a clear majority for BJP in the state of Jharkhand, which came into existence as a separate state after carving it out from the southern part of Bihar in 2000.
According to the News Nation Exit Poll, the BJP-led NDA is likely to win 9-11 seats and the Grand Alliance of the Congress, the RJD, the JMM and the JVM may win 3-5 seats. In 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP won 12 seats and left only 2 seats (Dumka and Rajmahal) for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The Congress and the JMM had forged an alliance in the state to take on the BJP but the Grand Old Party failed to open its account.
In terms of vote share, the NDA is likely to get 45 per cent of votes and the Congress is expected to get around 40 per cent.
In 2014, the BJP received 52,07,439 votes with a vote share of 40.7 per cent and the JMM garnered 12,05,031 votes with a vote share of 9.4 per cent. The Congress received 17,24,740 votes with a vote share of 13.5 per cent. The JVM, the AJSU and the RJD received 15,67,655 (12.2%), 4,81,667 (3.80%) and 2,12,571 (1.7%) votes respectively.
The Jharkhand has 14 Lok Sabha seats and out this one seat is reserved for the scheduled castes and five are reserved for the scheduled tribes. From Jharkhand, 6 members go to the Rajya Sabha. The number of assembly constituencies in the state are 82 and the state saw its last assembly elections in December 2014.Â
