Kailash Vijayvargiya's big announcement: BJP wants me to focus on Bengal, won't contest Lok Sabha polls from Indore

BJP’s National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has announced that he will not contest the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The senior party leader took to Twitter and made the declaration. In a series of tweets, Vijayvargiya spoke extensively about ‘Nation First, Party Second, Self Last,’ motto. Initially he talked about how the Bengal BJP must put its efforts to win maximum seats in the General Elections. Then he spoke about how the all party members are working for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s return at the 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. He added that since the party wanted him to work in Bengal, he has decided not to contest the parliamentary elections.

In 2015, Vijayvargiya was appointed as the BJP General Secretary. "I am fortunate to get a chance to work with a strong leadership. It is a matter of great privilege. We will form government in Bihar. We will contest with full potential and win in the upcoming elections," he had said at that time.

Later, he was made an observer for BJP Bengal to improve party’s position in Mamata Banerjee’s zone of influence. Vijayvargiya has a proven track record of good performance in Haryana where he strengthened the party organisation.

Prior to this announcement, there was a strong buzz about major clash between Vijayvargiya and Jyotiraditya Scindia in Indore. But some say with his son Aakash already having won from Indore-III assembly constituency in 2018 polls, the party was having second thoughts about fielding Vijayvargiya from the seat. The former MP minister has represented three different assembly seats in Indore and has been the city’s mayor in the past.

Meanwhile, an Indian Express report says that other names in the race for BJP ticket in Indore, include present mayor and Indore-IV MLA Malini Gaud, Indore Development Authority (IDA) chief Shankar Lalwani (who is believed to have Mahajan’s backing) and ex-MLA from Dhar district’s Badnawar seat Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat.
