Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed people of Varanasi, from where he is seeking re-election, through the NaMo app ahead of its polls on 19 May and said that ‘Kashi’ has helped him evolve as the prime minister.

The prime minister also emphasised that a lot has already been done in the ‘Kashi’ but there’s still a lot to do. “In the last five years, we've come together to do a lot of work. However, there is still a lot to do,” PM Modi said.

"It is often said that whosoever come to Kashi even once, becomes part of the city. In the last five years, I have experienced this every passing moment. In molding me and giving a direction to my political and spiritual being, Kashi has a huge influence on me," he said.

The prime minister also recited a few lines of poetry that he had written on the temple city. Highlighting the measures his dispensation brought about in Varanasi, Modi urged voters to cast votes in large number and break the record.

"Everyone must participate in the biggest celebration of democracy. You should also encourage your friends and relatives to vote. The whole country will be looking towards Kashi on that day. Go out in large numbers, wear your traditional clothes, and celebrate the day of voting with joy and fervor. Kashi has to make a new record now when the whole country is looking up to it. The record of the whole country should be broken by Kashi," PM Modi was quoted as saying by ANI.

He also asked people to click selfies after voting and post them on social media.
