Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday targeted the Congress party for cheating farmers in the name of farm loan waivers in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. PM Modi said the politics of waiver of farmer loans is actually an effort to throw dust in their eye. “Those who took loan were promised waivers of Rs 2.5 lakh but only Rs 13 were waived off. This is the story of Madhya Pradesh. In Rajasthan, the government has given up. (Jisne karz liya uski 2.5 lakh ki maafi ka vaada kiya tha aur maafi huyi kewal Rs 13 ki. Ye kahani Madhya Pradesh ki hai, vahin Rajasthan mein sarkar ne toh haath hi khade kar diye),” said PM Modi while addressing a rally in Thakurnagar.
He also targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for sharing a dais with Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. “In Karnataka, farmers who could not repay loans had police let loose on him. And the chief minister of this state is supporting the Karnataka CM,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi, who had to cut short his speech at West Bengal's Thakurnagar rally amid stampede-like situation, said his government took a historic step for the welfare of the farmers and working class.
He said that scheme will directly transfer Rs 6000 per year to accounts of farmers having five acres of land. "More than 12 crore families of small farmers, 30-40 crore workers and 3 crore middle-class families will directly benefit from the schemes announced in the budget yesterday," said PM Modi.
"This is just the beginning, the main budget after the Lok Sabha election will have much more for the youth, farmers, and other sections of the society," the prime minister reiterated.
Before concluding his speech, the prime minister asked Trinamool to support its government in the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Earlier, clashes broke out between BJP and TMC activists in Durgapur town in West Burdwan district over the alleged removal of PM Modi's posters near the venue of his proposed rally on Saturday.
Activists of the BJP were injured in the incident that took place on Friday night, the party's state general secretary Sayantan Basu said.
