Uttarakhand opinion poll highlights: BJP to get 4 seats with 42 per cent votes in Lok Sabha Elections

With just months to go for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, News Nation conducted an opinion poll to assess what the performance of each of the political parties in Uttarakhand would be in case the Parliamentary Elections were to be held today. News Nation team travelled across all the five Lok Sabha constituencies across the state - Nainital, Almora, Garhwal, Hardwar, and Tehri Garhwal and asked several questions to the people in a bid to find out who will have the better chance in upcoming General Elections.

Who will be the top choice for prime minister in Rajasthan? Will the BJP manage to repeat its 2014 performance in the state? Will the Congress be able to make a comeback after in the Lok Sabha polls after registering a thumping victory in three Hindi heartland states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh -  in 2018 Assembly polls?

Other important facts that will impact the General Elections in the hill state include - list of achievements and developmental works of the existing government, the 10 per cent quota for economically backward in general category and Modi government’s stand on China and Pakistan, a controversy surrounding politically sensitive Rafale fighter jet deal. 

In 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had swept the Lok Sabha Elections by winning all the five seats in Uttarakhand - which was formed in the year 2000.  Earlier in the year 2009, the Congress won all five seats in the State and in the year 2004 the BJP won three seats, and the Congress and the SP won one seat each.

Top choice for Prime Minister in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections:
When asked about Prime Minister's choice in 2019, 52 per cent people in Uttarakhand chose Narendra Modi while 23 per cent people want Congress president Rahul Gandhi to run the country. 14 per cent people wanted someone else as the Prime Minister of India.

We are among the fastest growing economy and the efforts done by the state government have started showing results. Jobs are being created in the state and youths are happy with the development.

Being asked about the biggest ongoing issues in Uttarkhand, people said Employment (29%), Inflation (13%), Corruption (11%), PM Candidate (11%), GST-Demonetisation (8%), Migration (7%), Farmers (6%), General caste quota (5%), Others (8%), and can't say (2%).

45 per cent people said they are satisfied while 31 per cent say they are not. 

On protest being held over issues related to environment, the Chief Minister said that people from outside are coming in Uttarakhand to stage such protests. People of the state are satisfied with the environment. 

CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the Supreme Court has already cleared everything on Rafale.

37 per cent people in Uttarakhand say there is substance in allegations leveled by Rahul Gandhi over Rafale Deal, 35 per cent people say the allegations are baseless.

Is Modi govt giving a fitting reply to China and Pakistan?


While 46 per cent voters in the state responded Yes, 41 per cent people in the state said a No.


The BJP is predicted to win 42 per cent vote share in Uttarakhand while the Congress may win 34 per cent vote share in General Elections 2019.

In the year 2004 the BJP won three seats, and the Congress and the Samajwadi Party won one seat each.

In the year 2009 the Congress won all five seats in the State.

It witnessed its third Lok Sabha polls on May 7, 2014 in which the BJP won all the five Lok Sabha seats.

It sends three members to the Rajya Sabha.

The state has five Lok Sabha seats.

Uttarakhand was formed in the year 2000.
