Held in seven phases, the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 for 542 of 543 constituencies concluded on May 19. Counting of votes are currently underway amidst tightened security arrangements. As per the current trends, the BJP-led NDA is heading towards thumping victory, while Congress-led UPA is likely to repeat 2014 performance. As far as the Union Territory of Daman and Diu is concerned, the BJP has won the lone seat.
It is to be noted that Daman and Diu voted in a single phase on April 23 to choose their only Member of Parliament. Polling were held in Daman and Diu parliamentary constituency in the third phase. BJP candidate Lalubhai Babubhai Patel has defeated Umeshbhai Babubhai Patel of Congress with the margin of over 9,000 votes.

Lalubhai Babubhai Patel had won the 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Daman and Diu constituency. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Lalubhai Babubhai of BJP won in this seat by defeating the INC candidate by a margin of 9,222 votes which was 10.57% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 53.83% in 2014 in the seat. There were a total of 4 contestants in 2014.
In 2009, Lalubhai Patel of BJP emerged victorious in this seat by defeating the INC candidate by a margin of 24,838 votes which was 36.51% of the total votes polled. BJP had a vote share of 65.48% in 2019, in the constituency. There were 7 contestants in 2009.
Interestingly, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA won 336 seats of 543, while the UPA won 59 seats, 44 of which were won by the Congress.
