The counting of votes for the high-stakes Lok Sabha elections is currently underway, bringing the performance of the ruling Congress in the two states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh under close scrutiny. The counting of votes will begin at 8 am and the first trends are expected by around 10 am.
While the Congress is buoyed by the victories in assembly polls in the last year last year, exit polls have predicted a dominance of the saffron party in both the states.
According to News Nation exit poll, the BJP is expected to win 23 of the 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh and seven of the 11 seats in Chhattisgarh. The Congress is likely to win the remaining six and four states in the two states respectively.

BJP's Vishnu Dutt Sharma was leading by 4,29,857 votes over Congress' Kavita Singh in Khajuraho.
In Morena, Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar was leading by 27,849 votes over Congress' Ramniwas Rawat.
In Rajgarh, Congress' Mona Sustani was trailing by 3,97,395 votes against sitting BJP MP Rodmal Nagar.
Adding to the series of setbacks the Congress faced in the Lok Sabha election results, its prominent candidate Jyotiraditya Scindia is set to lose in his traditional Parliamentary constituency Guna against BJP's K P Yadav.
As per the latest updates by the Election Commission, Scindia had managed to garner 4,11,396 votes against Yadav who got 5,34,438 votes.
Early trends show BJP is leading on 28 of the 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh. Congress is leading on 1 seat.
Sadhvi Pragya Thakur is still leading against Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal.
Congress candidate Nakul Nath, son of CM Kamal Nath, is ahead of BJP's Nathanshah Kawreti in Chhindwara seat by a margin of 1,520 votes.
BJP's Krishna Pal Singh Yadav is leading by a margin of 1165 votes against Congress' Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna.
BJP's Pragya Singh Thakur is leading against Congress' Digvijay Singh by a margin of 3,105 votes in Bhopal Lok Sabha seat of Madhya Pradesh, as per initial trends.

The counting of votes for the 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held from 8 am on Thursday in 292 halls across 51 district headquarters. Given the number of candidates and counting rounds, the first result may start coming in by 10 am.
EVMs will be brought to the counting tables for counting after the ballot votes.
