The Election Commission is sticking to its plan of counting the paper trail machines slips at the end of counts and not in the beginning as demanded by opposition parties. In the last three Lok Sabha polls since 2004, the BJP won 10 out of 11 seats in Chhattisgarh.

If exit polls are anything to go by, the Congress will fail to capitalise on the gains it made in the 2018 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The Bhopal Lok Sabha seat saw one of the most keenly watched contest between Congress veteran Digvijay Singh and Hindutva activist and 2008 Malegaon blast case accused Pragya Singh Thakur.

The counting of votes for the 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held from 8 am on Thursday in 292 halls across 51 district headquarters. Given the number of candidates and counting rounds, the first result may start coming in by 10 am.

EVMs will be brought to the counting tables for counting after the ballot votes.

The counting of votes will begin at 8 am in both the states while the first trends can be expected by 10 am.
