The festival of democracy is knocking at our door and people will exercise their voting rights to choose their leader on April 11 when the first phase of Lok Sabha elections begins. In Uttar Pradesh, voting in the first phase will be held on eight constituencies and several top leaders, including Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh, his son Jayant Choudhary and Union Ministers Mahesh Sharma and VK Singh will be in the fray. Of the eight seats, the Congress party will be contesting on six seats, while the BSP candidates will be fighting on four seats. The BJP, which had bagged all the eight seats in 2014, has fielded his candidates from all the constituencies going to vote in the first phase. The constituencies where polling will be held on April 11 are – Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Baghpat, Kairana, Meerut, Bijnor, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar. The Samajwadi Party will be contesting on two seats.
