The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Polls will take place on May 6. There are 674 candidates in the poll fray. Polling will take place across 50 constituencies in six states as well as in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag, where voting is taking place in three phases due to security reasons.
The National Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 668 out of 674 candidates, who are contesting in the Lok Sabha Phase 5. There are six candidates who have not been analysed due to unavailability of their properly scanned and complete affidavits, at the time of making this report.
Let’s take a look at the candidates’ assets, educational qualification, criminal background, among others:
- Candidates with assets worth Rs 1 crore and more: 184
- Average worth of assets per candidate in this phase - Rs 2.57 crore
- Candidates who declared zero assets - 3
- Candidates who are at least graduates or more qualified - 348
- Candidates who have completed studies between classes 5 and 12 - 264
- Literates - 43
- Illiterate – 6
- Criminal background – 126
- Candidates who have serious criminal cases – 95
- Women candidates – 12%
- Contenders who have cases related to crimes against women - 9
