The Election Commission has made arrangements to issue braille-enabled ballot papers at all polling booths in the state, as part of its efforts to ensure wider participation of voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor said. The EC initiative, a first in Meghalaya, will facilitate more than 800 visually impaired electorates to vote by a secret ballot, he said.

As many as 6.81 lakh sticks of red sealing wax and over four lakh candles will be used in Maharashtra to keep the electronic voting machines (EVMs) secure after the Lok Sabha polls next month.

A National People’s Party (NPP) worker has been killed by a suspected NSCN(IM) member at a village in Arunachal Pradesh, a district official said. The suspected member of the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Coucil of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) assaulted Jaley Anna and his friend Kham Nai Abhi, both NPP workers, at Kheti village in Tirap district at around 10 PM on Friday, the official said on condition of anonymity. While Anna died on the spot, Abhi has been admitted to a hospital, he said.

Gujarat: Visuals from Ahmedabad where preparations are underway ahead of the filing of nominations by BJP President Amit Shah. He is contesting from Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency.

The NCP alleged late on Friday evening that the wife of Bajrang Sonawane, its candidate from the Beed Lok Sabha constituency in central Maharashtra, was attacked by “BJP goons”.

Sonakshi Sinha on her father Shatrughan Sinha leaving BJP & joining Congress, said: "It’s his choice. I think if you're not happy somewhere you must bring a change and that’s what he did. I hope in this new association with Congress, he'll be able to do more good work and not feel suppressed." She also added, " Being a party member from the beginning, from the time of JP Narayan ji, Atal ji & Advani ji, my father has a lot of respect within party and I feel the entire group hasn't been given the respect they deserve. I think he has done it a bit too late, should've done it long back."

A total of 241 candidates are in the fray in Karnataka's 14 Lok Sabha constituencies that will go to polls in the first phase on April 18, poll officials said late Friday night. And as many as 33 candidates withdrew their nomination papers on the last day on Friday.  

 The BJP will organise a two-day ‘Main bhi Chowkidar’campaign across Rajasthan.

The BJP has also scheduled to 4-km roadshow today covering the Naranpura and Ghatlodia Assembly segments of the Gandhinagar constituency. 

BJP president Amit Shah will file his Lok Sabha poll nomination from Gandhinagar at 1.20 pm.
