Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday officially blew the poll bugle for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. In a powerful speech, the Prime Minister launched a scathing attack on the Opposition in the presence of a massive sea of supporters.
Here are the five topics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched upon at the mega rally in the politically sensitive Uttar Pradesh town:
Dig at Congress’ NYAY scheme:
"People who couldn't open bank accounts are now saying that they will directly transfer money to the poor, what will they possibly do?" asks PM Modi.
On Monday, Rahul had announced that Rs 72,000 per year will be given as minimum income to poor families, benefiting around 25 crore people, if his party is voted to power in Lok Sabha polls. The name of the proposed scheme is 'Nyuntam Aay Yojana' or Nyay. The word 'Nyay' stands for justice in Hindi. Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for criticising the proposed scheme, the Congress chief said that the former mocked MGNREGA as he failed to understand Congress government’s employment generation scheme.
Saboot vs Sapoot:
PM Modi attacked the Opposition for demanding the proof of the Balakot air strike. “Kya aapko saboot chahiye ya aapko sapoot chahiye (Do you want proof or do you want the good son of the soil),” asked PM Modi in a sharp swipe at the Opposition leaders.
“5 years ago, when I sought your blessings, you gave me a lot of love. I had said that I will return the blessings and the love with interest, and I had also said that I will give account of the work that I have done,” the Prime minister said.
PM Modi attacks the Mahagathbandhan:
“These mahamilaavat leaders flourish when the country has cracks, when the country is weak, because they can exploit this to make their personal fortunes. But now they are scared because India is uniting, becoming stronger, and they now know that they can no longer exploit the people. I on the other hand have no fortune and no desire to create one either. Your love is all I need. I am not in this to create personal fortunes,” said PM Modi in Meerut.
PM Modi’s reply to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Theatre Day’ tweet:
After the announcement of Mission Shakti by PM Modi on Wednesday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had this to say: “Well done DRDO, extremely proud of your work. I would also like to wish the PM a very happy World Theatre Day (sic)”.
On Thursday, at the Meerut rally the prime minister took a dig at Rahul Gandhi’s tweet and said, “You saw for yourself, yesterday, how our accomplishments in space were ignored by the opposition, there was also some confusion, regarding SAT looking like a theatre set to some (sic).”
PM Modi slams SP-RLD-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh:
PM Narendra Modi said, "Sapa (SP) ka 'sha', RLD ka 'Raa' aur Baspa (BSP) ka 'ba', matlab 'sharab'...Sapa, RLD, Baspa, ye 'sharab' aapko barbaad kar degi."
