New Delhi:

Telangana, the newest state of the country, will go to polls for the first time in the first phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 on Thursday. As many as 2.97 crore voters will exercise their franchise on April 11 at 34,604 polling centres in all 17 Lok Sabha constituencies. The main battle in the state is among the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Congress and the BJP. In 2014, while the Congress won two seats, the BJP secured a single seat. The TRS has set a target of securing 16 seats leaving Hyderabad for its ally All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen. The BJP faces an uphill task to retain the lone parliamentary constituency of Secunderabad under its fold. In the Assembly elections held in December, K Chandrashekar Rao's TRS had won 88 of the 119 Assembly seats, guaranteeing at least 15 Lok Sabha seats. The Congress had won 21 Assembly seats, which would add up to one Lok Sabha seat. The TRS also registered a huge victory in the recent panchayat elections in the state. Telangana votes in a single phase on Thursday.
