New Delhi:

A day after her party's candidate from Madhya Pradesh's Guna joined the Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday threatened to withdraw her support to state government. The Congress party formed the government in Madhya Pradesh with the support of BSP after it fell short of majority.

Accusing the Congress party of intimidating her candidates in the state, Mayawati said, "The Congress is not less than the BJP when it comes to misusing government machinery. The Congress had intimidated BSP candidate from Guna by forcing him to join the party. But BSP will answer this by fighting the elections on its own symbol and will also reconsider the continuation of support to the Congress government."

The threat from Mayawati came a day after Lokendra Singh Rajput, BSP candidate from Madhya Pradesh's Guna joined the Congress in presence of Jyotiraditya Scindia. The development was a big setback for the BSP as it had fielded Rajput against Scindia in Guna.

Like Uttar Pradesh, the BSP and the Samajwadi Party (SP) are fighting the Lok Sbaha elections in Madhya Pradesh together. As per their alliance pact, the SP is contesting from Balaghat, Thikri, and Khujrao Parliamentary seats while the BSP will contest the remaining seats.

Mayawati also asked people to be careful from the Congress party's propaganda in Uttar Pradesh, where the party's leaders are asking people to vote for the BJP instead of the BSP-SP coalition.

"Also, the propaganda of Congress leaders in UP that BJP may win, but the BSP-SP coalition should not win, reflects the casteist, narrow and double character of the Congress party. So it is right for people to believe that the BJP can only be defeated by our coalition. People should be careful," she said in a series of tweets.
