Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday addressed a rally in support of her brother and party president Rahul Gandhi in Kerala Wayanad, which will go to polls in the third phase. During her address, Priyanka slammed the Narendra Modi government and accused it of betraying the faith of people. "Five years ago, a government came into power that was voted in with a big majority. In all their wisdom, people of our country placed their faith and hopes in BJP government. That govt, from the moment it came to power, began to betray that faith,” the Congress leader said in her speech.

Priyanka Gandhi said that the Modi government believed that power belonged to them and the people of India and Amit Shah’s remarks that 15 lakh promise was a poll gimmick was the first indication of this.

"They began to believe that power belonged to them and not people. 1st indication of this gross misunderstanding came when their own Pres declared shortly after the election that promise of Rs 15 Lakh in every bank a/c was just for sake of elections, what he called a 'jumla'," she said

The Congress general secretary said that political opponents of Rahul Gandhi portrayed his character which was far from reality. She said that Rahul Gandhi stood tall to all the Opposition bashing because he has the will to work.

"He has faced massive attacks in the last 10 years. They have portrayed his character which is very far from the truth. His education is questioned, his martyred father is called a thief and his mother is ridiculed and yet he stands tall because he has the will to work," she said.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency besides his traditional stronghold Amethi.
