Earlier on Saturday, President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Modi to the office of Prime Minister of India and asked him to decide the council of ministers.
President Kovind requested Modi to advise him about the names of others to be appointed members of the Union Council of Ministers and indicate the date and time of the swearing-in ceremony to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, a communique said.
Modi was formally invited to form new government when he called on the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan in his capacity as leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party.
He was unanimously elected as the leader of NDA parlaimentary board during a meeting at Parliament's Central Hall on Saturday. After formally being elected as the leader of the NDA, Modi sought blessings of blessings from BJP veteran LK Advani, at the NDA meeting in Central Hall of Parliament.
His election was a mere formality as the NDA had already declared him the alliance's prime ministerial candidate. Modi will now call on President Ram Nath Kovind to stake his claim to form the government, following which he will be sworn in as the next prime minister, likely next week.
He has led the NDA to a landslide win in the general election, with the BJP winning 303 seats, its highest ever, and its allies 50.Â
