Navjot Singh Sidhu courts controversy with 'Dulhan' remark against PM Modi

The poll panel had in April barred Navjot Singh Sidhu from campaigning for 72 hours

Punjab minister and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday while attacking PM Narendra Modi called him a ‘liar’. "I call him a liar-in-chief, divider-in-chief," news agency ANI quoted Sidhu as saying. "Modi Ji uss dulhan ki tarah hain jo roti kum baelti hai aur chudiyaan zada khankati hai taaki mohalle walon ko yeh pata chale ki woh kaam kar rahi hai. Bas yahi hua hai Modi sarkaar mein, (Modiji is like a bride who does little but acts like she doing a lot of work. This is what happened in Modi government)," said Sidhu.

On Friday, the Election Commission issued a fresh show cause notice to Navjot Singh Sidhu for prima facie violating the model code of conduct by making alleged disparaging remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The poll panel had received a complaint from the BJP that Sidhu, during a rally in Madhya Pradesh on April 29, had made disparaging comments about PM Modi.

The poll panel had in April censured Sidhu for allegedly warning the Muslim community that efforts were on to divide their votes in Bihar, and barred him from campaigning for 72 hours.

Earlier, Sidhu lambasted  PM Modi over the Rafale deal, unemployment and farmer issues, and also dared the PM to have a debate with him. "China is building a railway line beneath the sea. US is finding life on Mars. Russia is trying to build an army of robots. And what is India doing? We are making a 'chowkidar' who is actually a 'chor' (thief). I am telling you that you are indeed a thief," Sidhu.
