'Not contesting elections': Akshay Kumar puts end to rumours of political debut

Hours after Akshay Kumar sparked speculations that he may enter politics with a cryptic tweet, the Bollywood actor has now put rumours to end by confirming that he will not be contesting elections.

“Getting into an unknown and uncharted territory today. Doing something I have never done before. Excited and nervous both. Stay tuned for updates,” Akshay had tweeted this morning.

However, after speculations about his political debut started doing the rounds, Kumar posted another tweet clarifying that his earlier tweet had nothing to do with politics.

“Grateful for all the interest shown in my previous tweet but just clarifying in light of some wild speculation, I am not contesting elections,” the actor wrote.

Kumar is known to be a supporter of the Modi government and the face of many of its flagship schemes. His movie ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ promoted the Swachh Bharat scheme.

Earlier too, reports had surfaced that he may join the BJP, but he had rubbished the rumours and clarified that he has no plans of fighting polls.

Meanwhile, Akshay, who is basking on the success of his recently released Kesari, announcing the leading lady of his upcoming film Sooryavanshi. Welcoming Katrina Kaif on-board he wrote, "Welcome to our COP UNIVERSE #KatrinaKaif...OUR SOORYAVANSHI GIRL."

Directed by Rohit Shetty, Sooryavanshi is the fourth film in his cop-universe after Simmba and the two super-hit Singham films.
