On polling day, crude bomb hurled at TMC workers in West Bengal’s Murshidabad, 3 injured

At least three Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers were injured after a crude bomb was hurled at them in Murshidabad’s Domkal Municipality ward number seven in West Bengal, even as polling was underway on five of the 40 parliamentary constituencies in the state.

The injured - Tujam Ansari, Masadul Islam, and Mallick Mondal – sustained serious injuries after some unknown assailants hurled the crude bomb on them. They were shifted to Murshidabad Medical college hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.

"Among the injured one person is a husband of Domkal's councillor. The injured have been admitted to Murshidabad Medical college hospital," police said.

Polling in the third and largest phase of Lok Sabha election in 117 seats (including Anantnag's first phase of voting) was being held on Tuesday. BJP president Amit Shah, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and several Union ministers among prominent candidates are in the fray.

Polling will take place across 15 states and Union Territories. Besides all seats in Gujarat (26) and Kerala (20), voting will be held in four seats in Assam, five in Bihar, seven in Chhattisgarh, 14 each in Karnataka and Maharashtra, six in Odisha, 10 in Uttar Pradesh, five in West Bengal, two in Goa, and one each in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Tripura and Jammu and Kashmir.

In West Bengal, voting for the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections was underway in Murshidabad along with Balurghat, Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, Jangipur constituencies. The TMC has fielded Abu Taher Khan as its candidate from Murshidabad against BJP's Humayun Kabir.
