Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked the people for giving him and the BJP the opportunity to serve them, adding that he will form the government again with their "blessings". "Countrymen and Indians abroad are blessing the chowkidar," Modi was quoted as saying at a poll rally in Bihar's Gaya. The prime minister further stated, the developments in the country in all spheres are due to the people and "Your chowkidar will complete the work that is left".

Hitting out at the opposition alliance against the BJP, Modi said the 'Mahamilawatis' (highly adulterated) are afraid of the "chowkidar" in a reference to the 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign of the BJP.

"There are two kinds of people who have a problem with 'Chowkidar.' One type includes 'Maha Milawati' and the second includes all those who sponsor terrorists, he said adding that blasts had rocked Gaya and various parts of the country almost every day before the BJP came to power. However, the blasts stopped since the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he added.

Addressing the crowd, JD-U president and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also spoke about development in the state with the aid of the central government and appreciated Modi for extending support to Bihar.

The BJP has not fielded any candidate from either of the two constituencies - Gaya and Jamui. From Gaya, BJP ally JD-U has fielded Vijay Kumar Manjhi, while LJP’s Chirag Paswan will contest from Jamui.

In 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with wins in 22 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. The Congress managed to get only 2 Lok Sabha seats followed by the NCP (1), JDU (2), LJSP (6), RJD (4) and RLSP (3).

General Elections in Bihar is crucial as this is one of the biggest states in terms of Lok Sabha seats after Uttar Pradesh (80) and Maharashtra (48) and West Bengal (42). Voting to 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar will be held in all the seven phases starting from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes for all phases will be taken up on May 23.
