Tamil Nadu minister KT Rajendra Balaji has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not only the “daddy” of AIADMK but the entire nation, which was why the party went into an alliance with the BJP.

“Modi is not only the daddy for the AIADMK, also the India's daddy. Hence, the AIADMK has forged an alliance with the BJP,” said Balaji while addressing a part meeting in Viruthanagar district.

Balaji said that ever since the death of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, it was PM Modi who had been guiding the party.

“Modi is our daddy now. Since we have lost our Amma, PM Modi has come as a daddy to guide and support us,” the Tamil Nadu minister for Milk and Dairy Development said.

Balaji made the remarks when he was asked why the AIADMK forged an alliance with the BJP when Jayalalithaa was not in favour of the same.

Last month, the BJP, AIADMK and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) announced a pre-poll alliance in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

This is the first time the BJP is having an official pre-poll alliance with one of the two major Dravidian parties — the AIADMK and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)— in the last two decades.

In the 2019 general elections, the AIADMK expects to ride the sympathy wave following the demise of its leader, Jayalalithaa.
