Pragya Singh Thakur’s comments intolerable, says Nitish Kumar on Godse controversy

Pragya Thakur had said that "Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt (patriot), is a 'deshbhakt' and will remain a 'deshbhakt'.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after casting his vote on Sunday condemned BJP leader Sadhvi Pragya Thakur's comment on Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse. "We should not tolerate such statements. The party should think about such comments," he said. He however said that what action BJP will take against her is their internal matter.

The Malegaon blast accused, who is the BJP’s contestant from Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal had said that "Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt (patriot), is a 'deshbhakt' and will remain a 'deshbhakt'. People calling him a terrorist should instead look within, such people will be given a fitting reply in the election."

Earlier, Prime Minter Narendra Modi had said that he will never forgive Pragya Singh Thakur for insulting ‘Bapu’.

Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah had also come out strongly against the controversial remarks of his party leaders, Sadvhi Pragya Singh Thakur, Union Minister Anant Kumar Hegde and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, over Nathuram Godse, saying the BJP has taken serious note of their statements, which are against its ideology.

Stating that these comments were their personal statements and had no link with the party, the party president said that all the three leaders have been asked to explain their remarks within 10 days.

A Special NIA Court in Mumbai directed Thakur to remain present before the court at least once a week. Six people were killed and over 100 injured when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle went off near a mosque in Malegaon, a town about 200 km from here in north Maharashtra, on September 29, 2008.
