Tamil Nadu Opinion Poll: AIADMK-BJP, DMK-Congress engage in close contest in state

New Delhi:

The DMK-Congress-Left alliance in Tamil Nadu is all set to get more than half of the total seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, winning 21 of the 39 seats, according to a News Nation Opinion Poll. The AIADMK-BJP-PMK alliance is likely to get the remaining 18 seats in the state. In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the AIADMK led by J Jayalalithaa swept the polls bagging 37 seats in the state.

This time the ruling AIADMK in the state heads a grand alliance that includes the BJP, the PMK and the DMDK. The party (AIADMK) is contesting only 20 seats leaving the rest of seats to its allies. The DMK too has left half the seats to its allies. As far as the vote share is concerned, the DMK-Congress alliance is likely to get 41 per cent of vote share whereas the AIADMK-BJP alliance will get 40 per cent of vote share. The PT, PNK and TMC are the other alliance partners of the NDA in the state whereas the Left Front, IUML, MDMK, VCK, IJK and KDMK have aligned themselves with the UPA.

In a national perspective, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to secure a landslide victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will emerge as a clear favourite for the second term, according to the News Nation Opinion Poll. According to the poll, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a choice of 48 per cent of respondents followed by Rahul Gandhi (29 per cent), Mayawati (5 per cent) and Priyanka Gandhi (5 per cent).

49 per cent of the people surveyed are satisfied with the work of BJP government, while 28 per cent are not happy with the Central government’s work. 13 per cent of the people chose not to make any comment.

When asked about the biggest issue which they will keep in mind while voting for Lok Sabha Elections, 22 per cent people voted for employment. It is followed by inflation (17 per cent), corruption (09 per cent), PM candidate (11 per cent), GST-Demonetisation (4 per cent), farmers issue (4 per cent).
