Unprecedented, PM holding press conference 4-5 days before election ends: Rahul Gandhi mocks Modi

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Friday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for holding his first press conference just days before final phase polling in the Lok Sabha elections concludes.

“Prime Minister holds a press conference just 4-5 days before the election ends, unprecedented, Prime Minister of India is holding a press conference for the first time,” said Rahul.

BJP chief Amit Shah and PM Modi held a press conference at the party headquarters at the same time when Gandhi addressed the media at the Congress head office.

Taking another jibe at Modi, Rahul said that the prime minister will again do some 'distract India' event, but country won't get distracted.

Rahul claimed that the Congress has managed to dismantle the idea of Narendra Modi in the past five years.

Reiterating his charges of wrongdoing in the Rafale fighter jet deal, Rahul said: "Now that the Prime Minister is doing a live press conference, I want to ask him 'why didn't you debate with me on Rafale? I had challenged you for a debate, tell the press why didn't you debate?"

Answering a question, he asserted that the philosophy of Shah and Modi cannot be the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi also said that the Election Commission's role in these polls has been "biased" and it has issued orders keeping in mind Modi's schedule.
