In remarks that could land her in trouble, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi has allegedly threatened the Muslim voters In Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to vote for her or face the risk of not receiving her help when she is reelected as minister in the upcoming Lok sabha elections.

A video of Gandhi’s speech in Sultanpur, from where she will contest the upcoming elections, has surfaced on social media in which she can be heard saying: “This is important. I am winning. I am winning because of the love and support of people. But if my victory is without Muslims, I won't feel that good. Dil khatta ho jayega (Things will become sour). Then when a Muslim comes to me for work, I think let it be, how does it matter. It's all give and take, isn't it? We aren't all sons of Mahatma Gandhi, are we? (laughter). It's not that we keep on giving and then losing in the election. This victory will happen with or without you.”

The Union Minister for Women and Child Development said, in any case, she is going to win the Lok Sabha polls with or without support from Muslims.

Maneka Gandhi, who had been winning from Pilibhit since long, will contend from Sultanpur this time. In 2009, she had contested from Aonla when her son Varun became the MP from Pilibhit. Meanwhile, Varun Gandhi, who became the Pilibhit MP, had contended and won the 2014 polls from Sultanpur. This time, the BJP has once again fielded Varun from Pilibhit.
