Hours after Congress put up posters of party president Rahul Gandhi and newly appointed Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh east Priyanka Gandhi outside the party headquarters, they were removed by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday.

Party leaders alleged that the posters were being removed on the direction of Modi government.

“There are posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in every part of the country. It is very unfortunate that NDMC chairman has ordered the removal of these posters on the direction of Modi ji,” a Congress leader can be heard saying in the video.

These posters and hoarding – with photos of Rahul, Priyanka and her husband Robert Vadra - were put up outside party headquarters on Tuesday with slogans like "Kattar Soch Nahi, Yuva Soch" (Not extremist ideology but young thinking).

Another slogan displayed on the posters reads, "Jan-Jan Ki Hai, Yahi Pukaar, Rahul ji-Priyanka ji Ab Ki Baar" (Everyone wants Priyanka and Rahul this time).

Earlier on Tuesday, the newly-appointed Congress general secretary got an office, adjacent to the room of her brother, at the party headquarters on Akbar Road. She also met a few senior party leaders from Uttar Pradesh and held informal interactions with them. Sources said that during the meeting, she discussed issues relating to strengthening the party in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka, who was abroad when she was appointed to the party post on January 23, has been strategically given the charge of the party affairs in eastern Uttar Pradesh as it constitutes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's LoK Sabha constituency Varanasi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's stronghold Gorakhpur.
