In a shocking incident, a shoe was hurled at senior BJP leader and spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao at party headquarters in Delhi on Thursday. The man behind the shoe attack has been identified as one Shakti Bhargava. News Nation has learnt that he is a doctor by profession. Early reports suggest that he belongs to Kanpur. Bhargav was sitting quietly among the reporters during the BJP press conference. Seconds after the shoe attack, the man was apprehended by the security personnel and whisked away from the site. Rao was addressing media over Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakurâ€™s nomination from Bhopal. At the moment, Bhargava is in police custody. Dressed in pink shirt, Bhargava was unassuming and was quietly sitting along with media persons. The shoe missed Rao by few inches.
A visiting card recovered from Bhargava showed that he runs a hospital in Kanpur. An MS in Surgery, Bhargava is a â€˜whistleblower.â€™ News Nation has learnt that the accused of the shoe attack has been taken away to IP Estate Police Station. Â Â
Eleven years ago, another shoe attack hit the international headlines when a young journalist working with Egypt-based TV station attacked then US President George W Bush in Iraq. Muntadhar al-Zaidi, then a 28-year-old journalist carried out the stunning attack. â€œThis is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog!â€ he shouted in Arabic as he hurled a shoe at Bush.
