All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen’s firebrand leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has mocked BJP’s 2019 poll campaign ‘main bhi chowkidar’ and said that in case Narendra Modi wants, he can give ‘a whistle and a cap’ to the Prime Minister. Addressing a rally in Hyderabad, Owaisi said that the nation is not interested in having a ‘pakodewala’ or a ‘chaiwala’. “We want a prime minister…. .I am surprised at those who vote for Modi, what kind of person they vote for? If Modi is so interested in being a 'Chowkidar', he should come to me, I will offer him a Chowkidar's cap and a whistle,” Owaisi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
He also slammed the top BJP leadership for changing their Twitter names. "I have seen on Twitter where the names have become as 'Chowkidar Narendra Modi', 'Chowkidar Amit Shah'. Why only on Twitter? He should also mention 'Chowkidar' in his Aadhaar card, voter-id and passport," Owaisi said.
The MLA from Chandrayangutta, Owaisi had recently said that he is open to the idea of contesting from Aurangabad for the Lok Sabah elections next month. “Why will Asad saab (Asaduddin Owaisi) contest from Aurangabad or Moradabad? I am here. If anyone has to go anywhere, I will be the one! My chief will stay here and contest from here, as all previous AIMIM chiefs have done,” Owaisi reportedly said at a rally in Kishan Bagh.
Meanwhile, the AIMIM president, who has filed his nomination for Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, has declared assets worth more than Rs 13 crore. His immovable assets are worth over Rs 12 crore and movable assets are over Rs 1.67 crore, according to the affidavit submitted by him while filing the nomination on Monday.
He owns no motor vehicle, but has one NP bore .22 pistol worth Rs 1 lakh and one NP bore 30-60 rifle worth Rs 1 lakh. The grand total of his liabilities is Rs 9.30 crore.
He has Rs 2 lakh cash in hand. His income during 2017-18 was Rs 10,01,080. It was Rs 13,33,250 during 2016-17.
There are five criminal cases pending against him. He was not convicted for any criminal offence. Owaisi is seeking a fourth straight term in the lower house of Parliament, from Hyderabad constituency.
