Aanand L Rai, with its first-ever big-budget mega star film Zero, is sailing high for the film promotions. The director is known for his films such as Tanu Weds Manu with its sequel and Raanjhana. The portrayal of small towns in Hindi films got completely revamped by his Midas touch. The director has, for the first time, has cast big stars in his film. Zero, which features Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Anushka Sharma, is yet another collaboration with his writer Himanshu Sharma to create a unique story.

When the filmmaker was asked the reason for casting big names in the film, he replied that the story is fairytale-like, hence requires a bigger audience which the cast provided him. In an interview with Scroll.in, Aanand said, “I felt this story deserves a certain kind of making. It has a dreamy, fairytale-like feel. It deserves a bigger audience. The story needed the mounting, which this cast gave me, and the story needed Shah Rukh, Katrina and Anushka. You call it a gamble; I call it casting.''
Moreover, the Zero director was in complete amazement while working with Shah Rukh as he considers him ‘one of the purest’ actors. The director lauded his dedication towards work and said, “As an actor, he is one of the purest I have worked with. He is a proud actor who will never ask why he should do it. He will do it. At the most, he will ask you how. He is very dedicated.''
Zero, once again sees a story, set in the backdrop of a small town. ''I believe it is not about Benaras, Kanpur, Haryana or Meerut. It is about people. Maybe I understand people from that space very well. Khan saab is still very Delhi. I always tell him that no matter how much you show Mannat [his bungalow in Bandra], at heart you are middle class. His roots are intact,'' explained Aanand.

Zero presents the story of Bauua, a vertically challenged man essayed by Shah Rukh Khan. Set against the backdrop of Meerut, the film presents a unique as well as a rooted story. Bringing back the super hit trio of Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaifand Anushka Sharma, Zero offers interesting performances with an unconventional storyline.
Red Chillies Entertainment and Colour Yellow Productions have come together to bring ZERO, produced by Gauri Khan, starring Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif and Shah Rukh Khan. The Aanand L Rai directorial is set for December 21 release.
