Mary Kom has made India proud for the sixth time by etching her name in the history books as she secured a 5-0 win over Okhota and entitled herself to win the sixth gold medal in the World Boxing Championship on Saturday. The win marked her as the most successful woman boxer of all time and to cherish this prestigious glory, Bollywood celebrities showered their heartfelt congratulatory messages onto the winning lady.

Priyanka Chopra had in Omung Kumar’s 2014 directorial Mary Kom, played the sportsperson’s part on screen. She took to her Twitter handle to wish Mary for her historical win. Priyanka wrote, “Wow! Only you could do it!! What an achievement... the first female boxer to win the #WorldChampionship for an unprecedented 6th time! Congratulations @MangteC... It’s a proud moment for the nation & you are and always will be my inspiration.. Here’s to #MagnificentMary

Bollywood’s mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan also shared his gratitude to Mary Kom for gifting him her boxing gloves, which he now considers as a gold medal. “I ever value your BOXING GLOVES that you gifted me! They are MY gold medals,” tweeted Big B.

Before the start of the tournament, Mary Kom had reflected upon her journey from the beginning. “About five-six years ago, we were suffering in different ways in terms of facilities, travelling-wise and problems related to infrastructure. Today, all needs are taken care off immediately. No need to worry about support and facilities now. The younger generation is far better off than us as they have little worries,” Mary Kom said.
