Bollywood’s Chandni Sridevi breathed her last in Dubai at the age of 54, creating a void in Bollywood. The sudden demise of the Nagina actress send the entire nation into shock.
Fans still are not able to believe that their favourite actress who rules Bollywood in 80s and 90s is no more. Thousands of fans flocked to Celebration Sports Club in Mumbai where her mortal remains were kept for prayer and meet.
Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor has opened up about the last moments he shared with his wife to Komal Nahta. The film trade analyst who is a close friend of Kapoor, in his blog said that the producer gave a detailed account of the fateful night.
Nahta in his blog said that Boney Kapoor wanted to give a surprise to Sridevi, who stayed in Dubai to shop for her daughter Jahnvi. He added that the 62-year-old left for Lucknow to attend a meeting while the Sadma actress relaxed and chatted with her friend in the hotel room.
“On 24th morning, I spoke to her,†Nahta quoted the Mr. India producer as telling him. Boney said Sridevi had told him, “Papa (that’s how Sridevi addressed Boney), I’m missing you.â€
The filmmaker however, didn't inform her that he would be coming to Dubai to give her a surprise.
“Boney recounted that there had been only two occasions in the last 24 years when they had not travelled together abroad ? when Sridevi had travelled alone on two brief foreign trips, one to New Jersey and the other to Vancouver for two appearances...,†Nahta wrote.
Boney Kapoor took a 3:30 p.m flight to Dubai to meet his 'Jaan' and give her a surprise. The 'Mom' producer reached the Dubai hotel around 6.20PM (as per Dubai time).
Nahta in his blog said, “Boney opened the door of Sridevi’s room with his duplicate key. ‘But she told me, she had a hunch that I would come to Dubai to fetch her,’ Boney recalled. The couple hugged, kissed and chatted for almost half an hour.â€
Boney suggested the two of them should out for a romantic dinner and even requested Sridevi to postpone the shopping to the next day, claimed Nahta.
It was then that Sridevi decided to go for a shower and get ready for the romantic dinner.
“I went to the living room while Sridevi went to the master bathroom to bathe and get ready,†Komal Nahta quoted the Judaai producer as telling him.
He also said that Boney surfed channels and watched India versus South Africa match for four-five minutes and then switched on to a channel showing Pakistan Super League cricket match highlights . Nahta added that Kapoor started getting restless “because he was aware that being a Saturday, there would be a rush in the restaurants. It was around 8 p.m. then.â€
“He made shout out to Sridevi from the living room but when he did not get any response he knocked at the bathroom door and even called out to herâ€.
“The unsuspecting husband, hearing the tap inside on, then called out ‘Jaan, Jaan’ still louder but got no reply, which was unusual. He panicked and opened the door which had not been bolted from inside, nervous but yet not at all prepared for what he was going to see. The tub was full of water and Sridevi was immersed completely, from head to toe, inside the tub. Devastated, he reached out to her but watching her motionless, he feared the worst,†Nahta added.
“The mystery will remain unsolved. But that was not of much relevance to her near and dear ones. What mattered the most was this: Sridevi, the vivacious, beautiful and talented heartthrob of millions, had become late Sridevi,†he concluded.
