New Delhi:

After creating much of the buzz over its release, Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Indu Sarkar' opened up to a slow start at the box office on Friday. 'Indu Sarkar', which has been mired with controversies since  the day it was announced, witnessed an average occupancy of 5-10% during the morning shows.

The movie was released on 825 screens across India and received mixed reviews from the audience and critics. Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh called 'Indu Sarkar' a captivating drama and added that Madhur Bhandarkar – who has made Bollywood’s epics like 'Page 3' and 'Fashion'- has returned to form with this flick.

Although, a lot was said about the story and release of 'Indu Sarkar', including the tiff with CBFC, the controveries failed to bring the audience to theatres.

According to a report published in Financial Express, the early trends suggest that 'Indu Sarkar' is likely to make a collection of Rs 2 crore on its day of release.

Helmed by Madhur Bhandarkar, 'Indu Sarkar' is based on the Emergency period between 1975 till 1977 that was imposed by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The movie is reportedly made with a budget of Rs 11 crore.

The movie stars Kirti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Parvin Dabbas, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Supriya Vinod in key roles and are winning appreaciation for their commendable performances in the movie.

Apparently, while a word-of-mouth might work for 'Indu Sarkar' in the upcoming weekend, it is also facing protests across the country.

Congress workers, on Friday, disrupted shows of Madhur Bhandarkar's "Indu Sarkar", the film based on the Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government in 1975, at several cinema halls in the state.

As the film released on Friday, the party workers stalled its screening at some theatres and multiplexes in Thane, Nanded, Nashik and Jalgaon districts. However, the shows resumed later amid tight police security, police officials said.

"Police have kept a strict vigil outside the theatres and no untoward incident has been reported so far," they said.

Given the controversies surrounding 'Indu Sarkar', we wonder if this Madhur Bhandarkar directorial will be able to recover its cost of production.
