New Delhi:

The past few weeks have been an eye-opener for many. Many women have spoken about the atrocities they have faced in the hands of powerful men and many such stories have been shared over social media where women have garnered up the courage to talk about how they have been harassed by such men. Names such as Rajat Kapoor, Aloknath, Subhash Ghai, Bhushan Kumar have cropped up.

It seems like the Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar controversy is not going to tone down any soon as reactions from some or the other celebrity keep surfacing every other day. Tanushree, recently accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on the sets of 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss.

Tanushree Dutta's appearance at a dandiya event this week became a fish bone in many people’s throat. Social media became abuzz with comments and tweets disapproving her visit. The actress was seen dressed in a festive blue and white sharara suit for the Navratri event which she attended with her sister Ishita Dutta and brother-in-law Vatsal Sheth. Watch her picture here:

Tanushree Dutta decided to shun such obnoxious judgements. "For all those people offended with and questioning my recent outing for Navratri event I have some words of common sense to share. Why do you expect me or anyone who has spoken out about injustice to just stay at home and sulk? I've never done that and never will. I have been attending events for the last 10 years regularly and looking great and happy is my birthright as a human being. I'm a 21st century girl and I don't conform to how your primitive mindset would expect me to behave.", the actress said in a statement.

Tanushree Dutta also questioned why women who complain of abuse are disqualified from going out and having a life not the men who allegedly abused them. "This raises an important topic of why girls and women, when they have the courage to speak out about harassment, abuse or assault, are then further stigmatized by society by imposing on them rules and codes of conduct post-complaint. For the last 10 years I have seen the four harassers of Horn OK Pleassss incident go out and about their life, do movies, attend events, win awards and laugh and smile and get accolades etc. Why not raise a question then? Now is my time."

"I will continue to raise awareness with my activism, I will continue to work, I will go out and have a great time with friends and family, I will get retribution, I will bring hope to many that have lost hope in this darkness, I will show a way to healing and wholeness to those that are broken. I will shine my light bright for all to see as I was not created to lurk in the shadows. And all this I will do while looking stunning, fantabulous and awesome."

Tanushree Dutta, who opened a can of worms some weeks ago, recently filed official complaints with the police and the women's commission about actor Nana Patekar who allegedly harassed her on a film set 10 years ago.
