Google on Thursday dedicated its doodle to the iconic actor of the Indian cinema, Madhubala. Popularly known as ‘The Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood', Madhubala is an epitome of beauty and charm. Born on 14 February, 1933, the versatile actress made her on-screen debut at the age of 9 with the film Basant (1942).

However, her acting career actually began in 1947, when she starred in Neel Kamal opposite Raj Kapoor at the age of 14. Madhubala went on to act in over 70 films in a career of 22 years. Madhubala’s stupendous performance in Mahal (1949) won a lot of accolades and appreciation from all quarters. 

Her love life was no less than a dramatic plot of a Bollywood film. She fell in love with Dilip Kumar but her father interfered, and the relationship came to an end. Madhubala is also best known for her portrayal as Anarkali in the cult classic, Mughal-E-Azam. The grace and sensitivity with which she portrayed the role is still etched in millions of hearts across our nation.

Madhubala passed away on 23 February 1969 at the age of 36 from a prolonged illness.
