New Delhi:

Rajkummar Rao starrer Newton has been selected as Indian’s official entry to the Oscars, the lead actor of the movie tweeted the same on Friday. Newton hit the screens on Friday and has garnered a positive response from the audiences all over the country.

’Newton’ has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. It was unanimously chosen from 26 entries this year,” FFI secretary general Supran Sen told media houses on Friday.

“Very happy to share this news that #NEWTON is India’s official entry to the #OSCARS this year. Congratulations team,” Rajkummar wrote.

Director Amit Masurkar says he was dissuaded by people not to shoot in Chhattisgarh but it was an ideal location to set his political satire 'Newton', which revolves around a government clerk's attempt to run a fair election in a conflict-hit area.

The political satire, which won accolades at the Berlin film festival earlier this year, stars Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil and Raghubir Yadav in important roles. Newton revolves around an officer who is on a mission to hold free and fair elections in a village in Chhattisgarh.
