Sanjay Leela Bhansali collaborates with Abhishek Kapoor to make film on Balakot airstrike (Twitter)
Bollywood’s popular filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is known for his period drama flicks such as Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani and more is all set to produce a film based on the recent IAF air strike and its hero Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
India on Tuesday confirmed that it had carried out a non-military, pre-emptive air strike in Pakistan's Balakot, in a pre-dawn attack targeting the biggest training camp run by the Jaish-e-Mohammed, who had claimed responsibility of the attack on 40 CRPF personnel on February 14. Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale told a press briefing that the pre-emptive terror strike was conducted as there was credible intelligence that the JeM, which had carried out the recent Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, was plotting major strikes in various parts of the country.
The untitled project will be helmed by Abhishek Kapoor, whose last directorial project was Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan starrer Kedarnath.
However, it is still not clear which actors will portray which role in the upcoming flick. As per some reports, many A-listed actors have shown their interest to act in the film.
Recently, movie based on India’s surgical strike on Pakistan was released and titled Uri: The Surgical Strike. Featuring Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam in pivotal roles, the movie went on to churn out big for its producers and currently the highest grosser of the year with around Rs 236 crore box office collections.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s last release Padmaavat was one of the most controversial films of the recent times and featured Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in significant roles. Despite several protests and ban in several region of the country, Padmaavat went on to become a huge commercial success.
