Vicky Kaushal's latest military drama Uri The Surgical Strike which was released on January 11 has minted Rs 8.20 crore on its opening day. The movie was released along Anupam Kher's political drama The Accidental Prime Minister. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Uri: The Surgical Strike features Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina and Yami Gautam in pivotal roles.

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and wrote, #2019 begins with a bang… #UriTheSurgicalStrike embarks on a flying start… Should witness growth on Day 2 and Day 3… Fri ₹ 8.20 cr. India biz. #Uri''.

Uri The Surgical Strike has mostly received positive reviews and with the positive word-of-mouth, the movie is expected to churn out good at the box office in its first weekend.

Anupam Kher's The Accidental Prime Minister managed to gross a decent Rs 3.25-Rs3.5 crore on its first day. 

However, Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan starrer and Rohit Sharma directorial venture Simmba is still running successfully at the box office and may affect business of the two releases. The movie has already grossed Rs 215 crore till Friday at the Indian box office. 

Talking about the performances in the flick, Vicky Kaushal is back to the silver screens with yet another striking performance. He has proved that there’s no one like him when it comes to versatility and great acting skills. The film also stars Yami Gautam and well, we can say that she is finally back with a bang. Rajit Kapur plays PM Narendra Modi, and seems to be around to ask a few questions and give reaction shots. The real hero is Govind Sir played by Paresh Rawal, who is modelled on National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Filmmaker Karan Johar also praised Uri The Surgical Strike and on his Twitter handle wrote “What and incredible actor @vickykaushal09 is! His performance is a blend of strength and sensitivity !!! This film will take the actor to stardom! He is OUTSTANDING! Great work by debut director @AdityaDharFilms !! He’s a director to watch out for!! Proud work!''.
