Filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s directorial debut with his film URI: The Surgical Strike is already making to the top news after it’s trailer release! URI: The Surgical Strike is based on the 2016 Indian Army’s surgical strike on terrorist camps in Pakistan in retaliation for the terror attack on an Army camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir. The film will see Vicky Kaushal playing the role of an Indian commando who is involved in the 2016 surgical strike.
Ever since the highly anticipated trailer of URI: The Surgical Strike released, it has been creating a stir across borders. The trailer initiated political debates all across the two neighbouring countries along with a furore on social media. Debates amongst Twitterati and YouTubers across borders started catching fire with #UriTrailer & #UriSurgical Strike related hashtags trending in Pakistan as well. The users expressed their woes and sense of triumph depending on which side of the border the tweet was posted from.
The film, hailed as one of the polished action war films of recent times, is garnering unexpected reactions from the audiences.
In an Interview, Aditya Dhar has clarified his stand on the film’s release in Pakistan. Asked if his film would be released in Pakistan, he said: “It doesn’t bother me. I have made this film for our country, citizens of this country and our Army. If Pakistani audience trusts us and watch the film, they will realise we haven’t spoken anything negative about Pakistani citizens Whatever statement we have made in this film is about terrorism. If they realise we are only fighting against terrorism and not against any country or its citizens, then they will really appreciate the film.”
Ironically, Vicky Kaushal portrays the role of a special forces commander-in-chief for URI while he earned critical acclaim for his empathic portrayal of a Pakistani Army officer in Meghna Gulzar's spy drama Raazi.
Beside Vicky Kaushal, the film also stars Paresh Rawal, Yami Gautam, Kirti Kulhari, and Mohit Raina in the lead. It is written and directed by debutant Aditya Dhar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala.
Produced by RSVP movies, Uri: The Surgical Strike will hit theatres on January 11, 2019.
