Dil Chahta Hai wooed us with its stellar star cast and mind blowing chemistry between the characters and continues to give friendship goal to all generations. Now 18 years after the film was released, it has been reported that Aamir and Saif are coming back together for the Hindi remake of a Tamil movie, Vikram Vedha.
The Hindi remake will be titled "Vikram Veda".
"Vikram Vedha" draws inspiration from the folk tale of Raja Vikramaditya and the spirit, Betaal, and imagines the tale in a modern-day set-up.
In the origical Tamil film, Vikram is a top cop eyeing to gun down a criminal mastermind named Vedha. Although the cop manages to capture the offender several times through the story, but everytime the criminal manages to slip out by distracting him with an interesting new story about his life. The life changing stories gradually turn the cop's perception towards his life and duty.
The film will have Aamir essay the antagonist, that is the criminal, while Saif will be seen in the role of the righteous police officer. In the original film, R. Madhavan played the cop Vikram, while Vijay Sethupathi essayed Vedha.
Vikram Veda will be directed by Pushkar-Gayatri, who also helmed the Tamil original. The film, backed by Neeraj Panday, is slated to go on floors in March 2020.
Earlier it was reported that Shah Rukh Khan has been approached for the role, however, the actor imposed the condition that he wants to take up the role of Betal that was potrayed by Vijay Sethupathi and not of Madhavan as Vikram that he was offere.
Meanwhile, Aamir is producing and starring in the Bollywood remake of Tom Hanks famous movie Forrest Gump and Saif Ali Khan to come back to online streaming screen as a troubled cop, Sartaj Singh trying to nab a force that is determind to destroy a city in 25 days. He will also star in films like Tanaji: The Unsung Hero and Laal Kaptan among others.
