Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishway Rai Bachchan starrer ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ is releasing on October 28. Although it is one of the most awaited films of 2016, but that hasn’t stopped it from getting embroiled in controversies. 

Let’s take a look at some of the controversies surrounding it:

Uri attack and Pak artists ban

The Uri attack on Indian armed forces led to backlash against films where Pak artists were involved. ADHM thus became the first target as Pakistan superstar Fawad Khan is a part of it. Although Indian government and Indian Motion Pictures Production Association (IMPAA) said that films which had already been shot with Pakistani actors can release but there would be no collaboration with Pakistan in future, MNS and Raj Thackeray carried on protests against ADHM.

Fawad Khan should leave India

MNS and Raj Thackeray took the cudgels of nationalism in their hands as they declared war against ADHM. The MNS protested against the movie’s release and gave a 48 hour ultimatum to Fawad Khan and other Pakistani artists to leave India as soon as possible.

Karan Johar vs Raj Thackeray

Karan Johar had to face the wrath of MNS chief Raj Thackeray when he said that Pak artists weren’t responsible for the terror unleashed from their country. Even the film industry became completely divided over the issue. Salman Khan and many others claimed that banning Pak artists wasn’t a solution. However, protests continued against the movie.

Exhibitors Boycott ADHM

The MNS protests had a profound effect as the cinema exhibitors association decided that they won’t run the film in single screens at cities such as Mumbai and Pune. 

Bachchans vs Aishwarya

Before the Indo-Pak clash gained center stage, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s hot love making scenes with Ranbir Kapoor in the movie’s trailer had sent shockwaves across the internet. Reports emerged that Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan were pretty upset over the bold scenes. However, a clarification came from the Bachchans’ end that they supported Aishwarya for the role as she was only representing a character.

The KRK drama

Whenever controversies abound, Kamaal R Khan, the controversy king can never be far behind. Trouble started when Ajay Devgan leaked an audio tape of Kamaal R Khan telling one of his associates that Karan Johar had bribed him with Rs. 25 lakh to sabotage Shivaay.Ajay too doubted Karan and this soured the relationship between both the Bollywood bigwigs.

Censor Certificate leaked

ADHM’s problems didn’t seem to end as its Censor Board certificate also got leaked on the internet a few days back. The film has received an U/A certificate and as many as 5 cuts were made in the movie. Anushka’s smooching scenes also came under the purview of Censor Board which cut a majority of them.

Bulleya plagiarism controversy

Bulleya is a melodious song sung by Amit Mishra and Shilpa Rao. However, allegations have been leveled against music director Pritam that the guitar riff in the song has been lifted from American rock band Papa Roach’s song Last Resort.

Karan Johar goes on the backfoot

Karan Johar had to give in to demands of MNS as he met Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Raj Thackeray and Producers guild head Mukhesh Bhatt to pledge that in future he will not collaborate with Pak artists.

The Rs. 5 crore settlement

Karan Johar claimed he was a patriotic citizen and agreed to donate Rs. 5 crore  to the Indian Army Welfare Foundation. Further, he also agreed to run a few minutes visual paying homage to martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Uri attacks.

Thus, ADHM had to overcome a lot of obstacles before its release and let’s hope that the movie is able to entertain the masses.
