Ajay Devgan impressed his fans while playing Inspector Baji Rao, a tough and righteous cop. He looked even more convincing as a Revenue Services officer fighting corruption in Raid. Now to treat movie buffs with some more dose of patriotism, the 49-year-old actor will essay the role of an IAF Wing Commander in Bhuj: The Pride Of India.

The announcement comes at a time when the historic feat of Wing Commander Abhinandan during February airstrikes are fresh in every Indian's mind.
Based on true events, the Abhishek Dudhaiya directed flick be one of the most interesting war films of all times. Devgan's character is based on Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik who was the in charge of Bhuj airport in Gujarat during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.
Film's producer Bhushan Kumar said, “This courageous tale needs to be told because we want the current and the coming generation to know about this brave soldier, Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who played a significant role in India’s victory in the 1971 war. He was heroic enough to take this bold step of involving civilians in a war. Also, who better than Ajay Devgn for the role of Vijay Karnik? We are working with him currently in De De Pyaar De and Taanaji, and we are glad that he is on board for this film, too.â€
Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik expressing his feeling about seeing Ajay essay his role said, “We were fighting a war and if there had been any casualties of any of these women, it would have been a great loss. But I took the decision and it worked out. I had briefed them where they could take shelter if attacked and they followed it bravely. Also, I could only see Ajay Devgn essaying my character and I’m glad that he’s on board.â€
The Golmaal actor was last seen in the action comedy, Total Dhamaal that was a box office success. He will next be seen in Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior co-starring Saif Ali Khan and De De Pyaar De with Tabu in other roles.
