Recently, a local Congress leader in Madhya Pradesh wants Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan to contest upcoming Lok Sabha Elections from the Bhopal constituency on the party ticket. Congress corporator Yogendra Singh Chauhan has written a letter to party president Rahul Gandhi for this and has mentioned that Kareena, daughter-in-law of late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, would be the most suitable candidate to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bhopal seat, considered to be the traditional BJP bastion. In 1991, Pataudi had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha poll from Bhopal on Congress' ticket.

Pataudi was born in Bhopal in 1941 and his grandfather was the last ruling Nawab of the city. His family still has strong ties with the city as the family - Sharmila Tagore, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, and Soha Ali Khan – have visited the city many times.

Taking a swipe at Chauhan, Madhya Pradesh BJP spokesman Rajnish Agrawal dubbed the corporator's move as 'entertaining'. "We are too strong in the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat as our MPs have worked for its all round development," he said.
